Getting started

What does The Life Operations Co. do?

The Life Operations Co. (The Life Operations Company, or The LOC) provides household support for busy families in Summit, Short Hills, Chatham, Madison and nearby New Jersey towns. LOC helpers take care of recurring work like laundry, meal prep, resets, organizing and errands, and we coordinate vetted vendors and home projects, with one point of contact at The LOC for everything.

Looking for a house manager or household manager near Summit?

Many of the families we work with started out searching for a house manager or household manager, because what they really wanted was someone capable to take the everyday work of home off their plate. The LOC offers that kind of support without you having to hire, train and manage one person yourself. Our experienced, background-checked helpers take care of the recurring work, like laundry, meal prep, daily resets, organizing and errands, and we coordinate vendors and home projects, with one point of contact at The LOC for everything.

It tends to suit families in Summit, Short Hills, Chatham, Madison and nearby towns who want reliable help at home but don't need someone full-time, or who would rather not become an employer. And unlike hiring directly, you're never relying on a single person, so a sick day or a vacation doesn't interrupt your support, and every engagement starts with a look at your whole household so the help goes where it will matter most.

What does “life operations” mean?

Life operations is the everyday work of keeping a household going: the meals, laundry, errands, schedules, vendors and countless small decisions that make a home feel calm. The Life Operations Co. takes that work off a family's plate with a dedicated team and one point of contact, so it's handled thoughtfully and consistently.

Who is The LOC for?

The LOC is for busy families who want more time and less to carry at home.

What is the LIFE Method assessment?

The LIFE Method assessment is how every engagement begins. It includes an audit completed by each adult in the household, a conversation with your family and an alignment meeting where we agree on priorities together. See how the LIFE Method works.

What's included

What kinds of tasks do LOC helpers handle?

LOC helpers handle the recurring work of a busy home, including laundry, meal prep, resetting the house, organizing closets, playrooms and pantries, and running errands like returns, dry cleaning and grocery pickups. We can also provide extra support around busy times, such as the holidays, a new baby, a move, back-to-school season or hosting family.

Do you manage vendors and home projects?

Yes. If you need a specialist provider, such as a professional organizer, handyman or interior designer, we can set up introductions with a couple of vetted options and then manage the scheduling and logistics with them, so all you need to do is tell us who you like and when you want them at your house. Depending on your engagement, vendor coordination is either included or available as an add-on.

Do you work with families who already have a nanny or cleaner?

Yes. Many families already have help they love, and The LOC can work alongside a nanny or cleaner to take on the work that tends to fall between the cracks.

What won't you do?

We don't provide childcare or drive children, and we don't take over your home or make decisions for your family. We also don't recruit or place nannies or house managers. Your family stays in charge, and we take the heavy lifting off your plate.

Helpers and trust

Who are LOC helpers, and how are they vetted?

LOC helpers are hired for their experience, judgment and discretion, and every one is thoroughly vetted and fully background checked. With The LOC, you gain access to a full team, so you're not limited to one person's strengths, and a sick day or a vacation doesn't mean your household support disappears. We manage the team so you don't have to, which means you never deal with payment or awkward feedback conversations.

Will I have to manage the helper?

No. You have a single point of contact that manages your team, including scheduling, payment and feedback.

What happens if a helper leaves?

If a helper leaves, we replace them, so your support doesn't disappear and you don't have to start a search on your own.

Investment

How is support priced?

Support is a flat monthly investment that starts at $1,450 a month. We'll recommend the right amount of support for your family on your first call. See what's included in ongoing support.

How does this compare to hiring a house manager directly?

Hiring a house manager directly can cost less per hour, and a great one can be a wonderful fit. The LOC adds a strategic look at your whole household, a team we manage so you don't have to, coverage when someone is out or moves on, and one place that's accountable for how it's all working.

What is the $350 assessment, and is it credited?

The $350 LIFE Method assessment covers the audit, a conversation with your family and the alignment meeting. It's credited to your first month when ongoing support starts within 60 days.

Can we change our support?

Yes. If your family's needs change, we'll work with you to adjust how much support you have so it keeps fitting your life.
